Corey Olsen, aka The Tolkien Professor and author of Exploring J.R.R. Tolkien's "The Hobbit", will be discussing "Heroism and The Hobbit" in a webcast for educators:
The Hobbit begins when Bilbo Baggins is hired as a Burglar, since no Heroes are available to help with a treasure hunt. As Bilbo's character and his role in the expedition change over the course of the book, Tolkien prompts his juvenile audience to think carefully about what it means to be a "hero."
Content will be appropriate for teachers to join with their classes or individually. After a 30-minute lesson, Dr. Olsen will open the session up to questions. The discussion will end with further resources for teaching The Hobbit.
Thanks to everyone who joined us for one of Corey Olsen's live webcasts. Below is a recording of the "Heroism and The Hobbit" session. Please feel free to share this with your colleagues and students.
