not sure if the link is clickable but copy and paste...this is a serious and deadly addiction. Thank you David for this book and for shedding light on this. I am a discharge planner in Bronx,NY for inmates released from state facilities and Riker's Island and the rampant drug abuse from the youngest to oldest is frightening.

After slogging thru this book of the most self centered child in the world I'm ever hopeful that there is finally a new form of this drug that hopefully will kill after only a few hits. Why should the families bve put thru this torture of bailing out these morons.
I know absolutely no one who has ever even tried Meth back here on the east coast. Its, like, a totally rad, like, thing out in California and the mid west I guess. I know of one heroin addict but only second hand. The amount of excess Californians exercise with thinking their children are all the next god of the universe undoubtedly contributes to their drug use. Gods don't die. Their parents are there to catch them every time. I'm a proud Yankee who instilled values in my own child-hard work and sober living. I am guessing the Meth tide coming east will be halted by our Yankee ethics!!!

Cathy you speak from total ignorance about the subject of addiction. My family IS from the east coast and my son is presently in treatment for cocaine and meth usage. My son is bright, intelligent, loving, caring, sensitve, funny, polite, spiritual and he possesses so many other wonderful qualities. Sadly, he also battles drug addiction. His drug addiction is only one part of him and it breaks my heart that people like you only see the drug addiction and don't see the whole person. It appears from your harsh judgement towards Nic and others with addictions (& their families) that you see yourself as the god you accused them of being. You ask why families should be put thru the torture of bailing out 'these morons' - my son has always taken full responsibility for his addiction AND his recovery. As his family we continue to love HIM completely and support his efforts in recovery - we don't 'catch' him and we don't make excuses for his actions - we hold him accountable for his actions. Yes, our family has experienced some difficult times connected to this addiction, but if I had to live those all over again or live without my son, I would live them all over again and again and again. Too bad that COMPASSION isn't one of the Yankee values that you possess. By the way, my son, like your children, has been instilled with the value of hard work - he not only goes to school, but he also holds down a job. Congratulations on being so perfect that you are able to cast stones. Nic Sheff has been diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder - perhaps that is the reason he turned to drugs in the first place. Instead of being so judgemental, lets increase our understanding of mental illness and addiction and improve the care we offer to those who suffer.

Cathyatwood - you are ignorant. Thank you to lovingmother for giving an accurate portrayal of our children. We are not from the west coast.I have 4 healthy, intelligent, hard-working sons who are loving and respectful of their parents and others. Sadly the youngest has an addiction problem. Although it is tough on the whole family he is the one who bears the brunt of the pain. Your judgemental attitude is unbelievable. I dare you to walk in my (our) shoes for one day and even think the things that you have posted. Do not come back to this site unless it is to give an apology to those of us who are walking through the nightmare of addiction!

As I am still staring at your post in disbelief I have to ask you why you are even interested in the book or anyone involved if you do not know or care about anyone with an addiction problem? If ignorance is bliss than you must be ecstatic. I too had trouble with the concept of addiction until I saw first hand that "don't do it anymore" isn't as easy as it sounds. My son like many others started self medicating when numerous meds for his seizure disorder failed. He is currently incarcerated (where I did not bail him out)awaiting a bed in the state hospital. I hope you never have to watch the agony a child goes through when they are stricken with this horrible disease. I pray your children stay healthy and disease free because with a uncompassionate, uneducated, parent like you they wouldn't have a chance.

Yes, I agree with the last post. I have watched my child suffer since he was 3 years old will other illnesses and disabilities. He too ended up incarcerated twice, basically due to self medicating to treat his crippling disease. I pray no one else has to watch their child suffer as I have. I pray no child will have to suffer period. I do feel that addiction is just like other diseases. I have watched in pain while my child suffers with addiction as well.
God bless.

I honestly can't believe that someone so ignorant can actually use a computer. I am from the east coast and I work in healthcare. If your post was not so hurtful to those families who have actually lost children it would be laughable. Meth and many other drugs are rampant- yes even among yankees, this disease crosses all boarders. Unfortunately it tends to target those who have other diseases such as bi-polar and depression and anxiety disorder. Your post is cruel and pompous. I have often found in my experience that often times parents with your views have children who have a problem but it is ignored or the child realizes the parent is judgmental and unapproachable. I do sincerely hope that this is not the case for you. Regardless, you would benefit for a dose of humility, tolerance and kindness.

I can't believe that you would wish death on anyone, addict or not! God puts everyone on this Earth for a reason and I'm sure he doesn't think to kindly of those who wish death on his children. I pray that your family never has to experience addiction first hand but your ignorance may cause you too. You claim that the parents of addicts make their children God like yet you yourself claim that your children would never fall victim of drug addiction. Aren't you making them God like by saying they are above it? If your parenting style is as closed minded as your post here then I'm sure your children have problems of there own.

That person's only wish was to upset people and cause a stir. To ignore him is the best policy. It appears to me that those who use Gods name as he does are from the devil No God of my understanding would be so judgmental
He who casts the first stone etc....
