The Globe and Mail, a Canadian newspaper, had an article on January 1, 2010 on orchid children, a label for children and adults who share characteristics of extraordinary sensitivity.
Does this sound like any of the beautiful children you know?
They startle easily, are sensitive to pain, are deeply moved by art and are sensitive to bright lights, strong smells, label in their clothes. They are more likely to watch and observe a situation before plunging in. They tend to notice more about the people around them and their physical environment, but they are easily overwhelmed. They are very susceptible to stress; however, the genes that make them so reactive to stress also make them responsive to positive influences and sensitive to social and emotional cues. So their higher risk of behavior problems and illness is coupled with enormous potential. They can really blossom into extraordinary people.
Oops! I sent the post message before finishing this post.
I am very interested in pursuing this tangent, realizing at the same time that it may not apply to all of the people, who fall prey to drug and alcohol use.
