The American Heritage® Dictionary of the English Language — Network Version

Perfect for use in the Boardroom, Classroom and Chatroom. The American Heritage® Dictionary of the English Language constantly sets the standard in dictionary excellence, in both print and electronic formats. The flagship Fourth Edition offers more information about the language in a more accessible format than any other dictionary in its class, combining the best of our tradition of exacting linguistic scholarship with important innovations in the art of dictionary making. And now Houghton Mifflin Company is proud to make the electronic Network Version available to the academic and corporate communities. It includes all the features of its print counterpart and a lot more:
• 70,000 spoken pronunciations
• Instant access to definitions by simply highlighting words on Web pages or in Microsoft Office and clicking the "A-Z" icon or the dictionary in the right-click menu
• Powerful search options include Image Search, Note Search, Pattern Search and Spelling Suggestions — when you're not quite sure of a word's spelling
• Over 1,000 color photographs, illustrations and maps from the print edition

As a special added value, we've included the Roget's II: The New Thesaurus, Third Edition. Users can find the right synonym with minimum effort, while its interoperability allows easy lookups by toggling between the thesaurus and dictionary. Unlike many thesauruses, this easy-to-use reference lists main entry words alphabetically, as in a dictionary, for quick searches. Each entry is divided into senses, with brief definitions and a full list of synonyms for each sense, to ensure that the selected usage is the most appropriate one. All special usages, such as slang terms, are labeled and grouped together at the end of each synonym list. Following each list is a cross-reference to a related entry in the thesaurus's unique Category Index. This index leads the reader from the starting word to dozens of others that have related or opposite meanings. These features make Roget's II in the Network Version the best resource for finding the right word every time.
