Patricia McMahon has a wonderful gift for capturing the joy and determination of her young subjects. She is the author of many inspiring books for children including,
Six Words, Many Turtles, and Three Days in Hong Kong, which reviewers praised as "an excellent slice of living theater" and "a captivating child's-eye view of a complex society poised for big changes." Her second book with Houghton Mifflin,
One Belfast Boy, captures in words and pictures the innocence of childhood lived in the shadow of violence. Her most recent book,
Dancing Wheels, takes readers backstage with the Dancing Wheels dance company and into the lives of two young dancers Jenny a "sit-down" dancer, and Devin a "stand-up" dancer.
Ms. McMahon has lived overseas and traveled extensively, guided always by the list she made up when she was ten years old: "The Ten Places I Have to See Before I Die." Ireland, the home of her grandparents, was at the top of her list and is a place she loves to return to. She now makes her home in Houston, Texas, with her husband and their children Conor and Claire.
