Research into medieval English history led to the writing of her first two novels, the Newbery Medal winner The Midwife’s Apprentice and Catherine, Called Birdy, a Newbery Honor Book. She is also the author of the award-winning historical novels The Ballad of Lucy Whipple, Matilda Bone, and, most recently, Rodzina.

David Wiesner

Linda Sue Park
The 2002 Newbery Medal winner for A Single Shard explores her Korean heritage in her fiction for young readers. Her first two novels, Seesaw Girl and The Kite Fighters, were also set in ancient Korea, but the award-winning When My Name Was Keoko takes place during World War II.
