Author of the Newbery Award–winning novels The Giver and Number the Stars, her latest titles are Gooney Bird Greene, an ALA Notable Children's Book, its sequel, Gooney Bird and the Room Mother, and Messenger.

Melissa Sweet
Illustrator of many fine children’s books, including award-winning The Boy Who Drew Birds and The Sky's the Limit: Stories of Discovery by Women and Girls. She has recently authored her first picture book, Carmine: A Little More Red. Reviewers have described her unique mixed-media illustrations as “exuberant,” “outstanding,” and “a creative delight.” The color red in all of its hues — scarlet, carmine, fuchsia — remains her favorite. She lives in Rockport, Maine, with her family and dog, Rufus.

Joyce Sidman
Author of The World According to Dog: Poems and Teen Voices, which was winner of the ASPCA Henry Bergh Children’s Book Award for Poetry, a VOYA Poetry Pick, and a Bulletin of the Center for Children’s Books Blue Ribbon winner. She is also author of the recently published Song of the Waterboatman and Other Pond Poems, which has already received countless starred reviews. Sidman teaches in Minneapolis schools as a writer-in-residence and is the author of several other fine books of poetry. She lives in Wayzata, Minnesota.

Sneed B. Collard III
Sneed B. Collard III has written more than fifty books for young people, including Animals Asleep and Making Animal Babies. To research and photograph his most recent book, The Prairie Builders: Reconstructing America's Lost Grasslands, he spent two weeks in Iowa interviewing scientists and accompanying them into the field. Sneed lives in Missoula, Montana.
